I am interested to understand how bacteria interact and how their interactions evolve. As a mathematician by training, I develop mathematical models to explore the links between different scales of bacterial life. How do metabolic networks within each bacterial cell scale up to the growth of bacterial populations and competition between multiple populations, and how such interactions evolve on the scale of metapopulations that inhabit different patches?
